Murfreesboro, TN - The Murfreesboro City Council voted 4-2 Thursday night to approve the Keystone Project, a large-scale redevelopment plan aimed at reshaping the downtown area. The project shifts focus away from office space and toward residential, retail, and dining options.
The development will be divided into three sections:
- Section one includes 239 multifamily units.
- Section two will have 100 condominiums and about 3,000 square feet of retail space.
- Section three features a 115-room hotel with more than 7,100 square feet of retail.
Most of the buildings within the project area are currently vacant. The exceptions are two city offices and the WGNS radio station on South Church Street. The city can vacate its buildings at any time, but WGNS must be relocated to a new building of equal size before demolition begins.
Across Broad Street from the Keystone site, the city is also working on daylighting Town Creek. The project will create green space along the stream, with areas for music, socializing, and walking.
