MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Ten leading professionals will compete in Read To Succeed’s 19th Annual Celebrity Spelling Bee on Nov. 7 at The View at Fountains in Murfreesboro. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner begins at 6:30 p.m., and the program kicks off at 7:00 p.m.
The event will feature an exciting adult spelling bee, live/silent auctions, and food/drinks from Simply Pure Sweets, The Sweet Addiction, Cedar Glade Brews, and Julie’s Bartending. The importance of literacy and how it transforms lives will be the core focus of the evening.
This year’s spellers are Kaitlyn Benavides, Rutherford County Schools; Kara Carpenter, Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce; Ashley Carter, Redstone Federal Credit Union; Dr. Jeremy Lewis, Bradley Academy; Eric Murry, Motlow State Community College; Tim Tipps, Wilson Bank & Trust; Jen Tooley, Compass Realty; Katie Turner, Rutherford County Library System; Shannon Wheeler, The Shannon Wheeler Mortgage Team; Robert White, Middle Tennessee Electric.
The Celebrity Spelling Bee is Read To Succeed’s annual fundraiser. This year, their goal is to raise $70,000 in donations and sponsorships. These funds will be used to offer literacy programming and events for children and adults in Rutherford County.
“From the stage to the classroom, the impact is immediate,” said Jolene Radnoti, Executive Director of Read To Succeed. “The Celebrity Spelling Bee turns community generosity into free, high-quality literacy services for individuals in the county, while also getting free books into the hands and homes of families who need them most.”
In the past three months, Read To Succeed has donated 2,576 books to children, adults, and teachers in the community, taught English as a second language to 623 adult learners, and provided one-on-one ABE tutoring services to several additional learners.
