Murfreesboro, TN - Sunny with temps in the low 80s attracted a record turnout to Saturday's (10/18/2025) "No Kings" rally. From 2:00 to 4:00PM approximately 2,000 protesters lined the two-blocks along NW Broad Street between South Church and Vine Streets. Murfreesboro Indivisible was greeted by 6-lanes of slow moving, horn honking traffic.

The rally was originally scheduled for The Avenue, but there were several promotions taking place and space was limited. As a result, Murfreesboro Indivisible organizers decided to move downtown.

Susan Myers-Shirk, who leads Murfreesboro Indivisible, emphasized that the move was not due to any issues with The Avenue. In fact, she praised their support, saying they were “extremely accommodating during the first No Kings rally back in June and remain open to future collaborations."

“We appreciate management at the Avenue and all their help and support. They were extremely accommodating for the first No Kings rally in June, and will accommodate us in the future, said Susan Myers-Shirk, leader of Murfreesboro Indivisible.

That's when the decision was made to locate the "No Kings" rally along NW Broad St., behind the Linebaugh Library and City Hall.

There was a large police presence, including many police cruisers that continuously circled that downtown area--making certain that rally attendees remained on the sidewalks and not in the streets. Officers were also stationed throughout the downtown historic business district.

A press release said, "Murfreesboro Indivisible is known for its non-partisan and progressive stance, champions democracy, First Amendment rights, and civic engagement through peaceful action. The group continues to build networks across Tennessee, encouraging thoughtful conversation and active participation in our shared democratic life."

Murfreesboro Indivisible is a part of a statewide organization that was formed in 2016. Indivisible groups in the Volunteer State have been organizing, stating that their purpose is to "resist extremism and fight back against the control of greedy politicians and lobbyists that try to divide as they enrich themselves". There are approximately two dozen Indivisible groups in Tennessee as of 2025. For more information, visit indivisibletn.org.

The national Indivisible movement began with the publication of the Indivisible Guide, a Google Doc to organizing locally to resist Trump’s agenda. Millions downloaded the Guide and then began to organize local groups to put the Guide into action. Today, the Indivisible movement is a progressive grassroots movement of millions of activists with chapters in every state at the state level and throughout local cities, towns and communities.
