Chattanooga, TN - Last week, the gloves were on and the stakes were high as Murfreesboro Fire-Rescue’s Captain Matthew Young stepped into the ring at the 16th Annual Guns-n-Hoses Charity Boxing Event in Chattanooga. Captain Young didn’t just show up—he stole the show.
The event, which raises funds for the YMCA’s Y-CAP program and the Forgotten Child Fund of Chattanooga, drew a crowd of supporters and first responders from across the region. Among them were Chief McCluskey and Deputy Chief Bigelow, who made the trip once again to cheer on their team and stand behind the cause.
Captain Young delivered a powerful performance, winning his match and earning the coveted title of Best Firefighter Boxer of the event. With grit, grace, and a whole lot of heart, he brought home his second Championship Belt—now proudly displayed at Firehouse 4 in Murfreesboro.
It was a night of punches and purpose, and Captain Young’s victory was more than just a win in the ring. It was a celebration of community, courage, and the kind of leadership that inspires both inside and outside the firehouse.
