MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - What began as a welfare check Thursday afternoon at the Old Fort Parkway Walmart turned into a major arrest and drug investigation, according to the Murfreesboro Police Department.
Officers responded after a woman was reportedly dropped off at the store with all of her belongings. During the investigation, police learned the man who had been traveling with her was wanted on felony fugitive from justice warrants out of Wisconsin.
Detectives later obtained a search warrant for a camper parked in the Walmart lot. Inside, they discovered approximately 10 pounds of marijuana, methamphetamine, mushrooms, and various drug paraphernalia.
The driver of the camper was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Detectives are in the process of obtaining additional warrants related to the drugs found.
The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
