MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Chief Finance Officer and City Treasurer Erin Tucker recently reminded City of Murfreesboro property owners of an important change to their 2025 property tax deadline. Due to an update to the City Code, Murfreesboro’s property tax due date is now aligned with Rutherford County, making February 28, 2026 the final day to pay without penalties. Payments received on or before that date will avoid interest; however, starting March 1, 2026, any unpaid balance will begin accruing interest at 1.5% per month, or any portion of a month, calculated on the base tax until paid in full. Property tax bills were mailed on September 22, 2025, and online payment options opened October 1. The City has also released an informational video to guide residents through the payment process and answer common questions.

To make paying taxes as convenient as possible, the City offers multiple methods, including online payment at www.murfreesborotntax.com, where property owners can pay by credit card, debit card, PayPal®, or e-check, as well as print tax bills and receipts or review tax information. Convenience fees apply, including approximately 2.50% plus $0.30 for card transactions and a $1.50 flat fee for e-checks. Payments can also be made by mail or in person at City Hall during business hours, though bank counter checks and two-party checks are not accepted.

Murfreesboro also participates in Tennessee’s Tax Freeze and Property Tax Relief programs, offering support for low-income seniors and qualifying disabled veterans. For questions about billing or payment assistance, residents may contact the Rutherford County Assessor’s Office or the Murfreesboro City Tax Department.
