WGNS was told during our visit to the The Epicurean Olive Oil Co. that pure olive oil is healthy. Armed with that statement we hit the internet and headed directly to the Mayo Clinic website looking for information to back up such a robust suggestion about, of all things, olive oil. The information we found was quite surprising.
According to Doctor Donald Hensrud, “The main type of fat found in all kinds of olive oil is monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs).” In his article on the Mayo Clinic website, he further described how the oil can help lower your risks of certain types of diseases. Dr. Hensrud noted…
“MUFAs may lower your total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. MUFAs may also help normalize blood clotting. And some research shows that MUFAs may also benefit insulin levels and blood sugar control, which can be especially helpful if you have type 2 diabetes.”
