RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - Tammy Sharp has announced she is seeking re-election to the Rutherford County School Board, representing Zone 1, in the upcoming Republican primary scheduled for May 5, 2026.

Sharp, a current member of the school board, said her decision to run again is rooted in her desire to continue advocating for students, families, and community values across Rutherford County. During her tenure, she has supported measures she says are aimed at strengthening school safety, expanding educational opportunities, and increasing parental involvement in public education.

Among the initiatives Sharp highlights are efforts to reintroduce prayer into school board meetings, remove what she has described as inappropriate materials from school libraries, and prioritize student safety. She points to countywide active shooter preparedness and security training as examples of steps taken during her time on the board.

Sharp has also emphasized career and technical education as a key focus, supporting programs that offer students hands-on skills and workforce preparation. These include courses in welding, culinary arts, music business, carpentry, and fiber optics. In addition, she notes her role in helping secure private donations to support extracurricular and specialized programs such as music, drama, archery, cosmetology, and culinary arts.

According to Sharp, her work has also contributed to approximately $1 million in improvements at La Vergne High School, which she says reflects a broader commitment to investing in local school facilities.

In announcing her candidacy, Sharp said she believes parents should have a strong voice in education, students should learn in safe environments, and taxpayers should see accountability in how public resources are used. She added that she intends to continue taking positions she believes are in the best interest of children and the community.

Voters in Rutherford County School Board Zone 1 will have the opportunity to weigh in on Sharp’s re-election bid during the Republican primary on May 5, 2026.
