MURFREESBORO, TN - One person died in the Sunday (12/21/2025) traffic crash that shutdown the Old Fort Parxkway between Chaffin Place and John R. Rice Blvd. According to the Murfreesboro Police FACT investigation (Fatal Accident Crash Team), a driver was sitting at the stoplight in the turn lane, preparing to merge onto westbound I‑24 (going toward Nashville), when another vehicle slammed into the rear of the stopped car. The driver of that second vehicle did not survive. Police are withholding his name until his family can be notified.
Murfreesboro Police FACT team spent hours at the scene piecing together what happened.
The driver in the first vehicle was taken to the ER at Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital for observation, but has since been released. FACT investigators are continuing to work the case as they determine what led up to the crash.
