Traffic Stop Near South Lowry Street in Smyrna Prevents Potentially Dangerous Situation

SMYRNA, Tenn. — A routine traffic stop on January 9, 2026, underscored the daily risks faced by law enforcement officers and highlighted the importance of vigilance on local roadways. While monitoring traffic near the intersection of South Lowry Street and Enon Springs Road, Officer Smallwood of the Smyrna Police Department observed suspicious driving behavior and initiated a traffic stop. During the investigation, officers noted indicators of impairment, and the driver was arrested for driving under the influence following standardized field sobriety testing.

With assistance from Officer Tucker and K9 Baldr, officers conducted a lawful search of the vehicle. The search resulted in the recovery of multiple firearms, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia. Police later determined that the individual had recently been released from custody and had additional felony charges pending.

Authorities said Officer Smallwood’s awareness, sound judgment, and adherence to established procedures helped prevent a potentially dangerous situation from escalating. Department officials noted that the incident reflects the Smyrna Police Department’s continued commitment to proactive policing and community safety.
