Since its inception back in 1989, success has been synonymous with Smyrna high swimming. Under the guidance of one leader, the Bulldog program has produced many highly successful seasons. These aquatic canines have flourished under the watchful eye of coach Tony Trumphour for three and a half decades. His current pack has offered more of the same as in years past.

The 2025-26 season is now in the books and featured many highlights. Under the strong leadership of seniors Hayden Fry, Diego Fuenmayor, Jose Gomez Rivero, Gavin Landes, John Macleod, and Robert Ruiz, the boys team finished unbeaten in dual meet competition (7-0). On the larger stage, the Bulldog boys were champions of the Middle Tennessee High School Swim Meet at the Jimmy Floyd Center, finished third in the Snowball Invitational at Sewanee, and garnered third place honors at the Doris Coady Rutherford County Swim Championships. During Region Meet competion, both Hayden Fry (200 IM) and John Macleod (50 free) etched their names in the Smyrna history books with top ten swims. Also at the Region the 200 freestyle relay team of Hayden Fry, Jose Gomez Rivero. Diego Fuenmayor, and John Macleod earned a medal with a 13th place finish. The 400 freestyle relay consisting of Gavin Landes, Amir Ismaili, Braxton Johnson, and Diego Fuenmayor also medaled with a 12th place finish. During the season, the Bulldog boys turned in 147 best swim times.

The Lady Bulldogs also finished with a winning record in dual meet competiton as they had four wins against three losses. Seniors Youanna Benjamin, Paige Kaylor, and Katherine Ledbetter displayed extrordinary leadership throughout the campaign. Hard work highlighted a girls squad that improved throughout the season as they turned in 76 best swims during the dual and multi-team meet events.

"This was one of the easiest groups to coach that I have ever had",says Trumphour. "We had a great atmosphere and it was always a team first mentality. I am very proud of what this team accomplished this year and it was a testament to their work ethic and commitment."
