On Monday, February 16, the Metro Nashville Police Department notified the La Vergne and Smyrna Police Departments about two stolen vehicles in the area. The notification came after the vehicles reportedly crossed the county line from Davidson County into Rutherford County. La Vergne authorities were ready to assist, and with help from Smyrna officers, personnel from both departments quickly responded as the vehicles traveled between La Vergne and Smyrna.
After officers entered the area where the suspects were located, the two stolen vehicles split up. One driver continued toward Smyrna, while the other returned to the La Vergne area via Murfreesboro Road. Following a brief pursuit, the vehicle in La Vergne became disabled due to the manner in which it was being driven. The driver stopped near Joe’s Gas Station at the intersection of Murfreesboro Road and Fergus Road.
With assistance from the La Vergne K-9 unit, one individual was apprehended at the vehicle, while a second suspect fled on foot. The fleeing suspect was quickly taken into custody near the railroad tracks close to Jefferson Pike. Police said both occupants were detained, and it was later determined they were juveniles.
Thanks to swift coordination and strong interagency teamwork between Nashville, La Vergne, and Smyrna police, Smyrna officers quickly located the second stolen vehicle as it traveled from La Vergne into Smyrna. As the other driver entered Smyrna, officers were already in pursuit.
While La Vergne police were completing their arrests, Smyrna officers worked to apprehend the suspect driving the second stolen vehicle. Authorities said both suspects were ultimately taken into custody.
La Vergne and Smyrna police confirmed that both drivers are facing multiple charges, including felony evading arrest, felony theft, reckless endangerment, and misdemeanor evading. They are expected to appear in Rutherford County court in the near future. Additional charges in Nashville are possible, though details have not yet been released.
Smyrna Police said in an online post, “We are grateful for the strong partnership between the La Vergne Police Department, Metro Nashville Police Department, and neighboring agencies. This coordinated response highlights how collaboration allows us to act quickly and effectively to protect our community.”
La Vergne Police posted, “These strong partnerships allow us to respond quickly and effectively to keep our communities safe. We would also like to thank our citizens for your continued support and assistance each and every day. Your cooperation truly makes a difference.”
