Local Plainview Elementary School Gets an Unexpected Visitor that Stopped By

CHRISTIANA, TN (WGNS) — It wasn’t crime or chaos that drew attention outside Plainview Elementary School in Christiana on Thursday (February 19, 2026) — it was a very friendly German shepherd who clearly had someone he wanted to be with.

The dog, later identified as Jack, was spotted roaming around the school’s campus. He wore a blue collar, greeted everyone with a wagging tail, and looked less like a stray and more like a family member who had simply gotten turned around. Students and staff quickly noticed he seemed to be searching for someone.

That’s when School Resource Officer Mick Rea stepped in. Instead of letting Jack wander into traffic or disappear into the nearby neighborhood, Rea gently secured the dog and gave him a safe place to wait — the back seat of his patrol car. It wasn’t exactly a jail cell, but it kept Jack out of harm’s way until help arrived.

Enter Hannah Miller, who quickly came to the rescue. She helped get Jack out of “custody” and made sure he was safely reunited with the family that had been missing him. The moment Jack saw them, his tail went into overdrive — the kind of joyful, full-body wag that leaves no doubt about how the story ends.

It’s a small snapshot of what local officers do every day — not just enforcing laws, but looking out for the people and pets who make up their community. For one Christiana family, SRO Mick Rea became a hero not because of a dramatic arrest, but because he cared enough to help a lost dog find his way home.
