LAVERGNE, Tenn. — A late-night incident behind the La Vergne Police Department ended with a suspect in custody and multiple criminal charges after officers responded to a suspicious vehicle early Sunday morning, March 8, 2026. According to the La Vergne Police Department, the incident began at approximately 1:51 a.m. when an officer radioed that a vehicle had pulled behind the police department and stopped in the grass in a restricted area.

Officers quickly responded to the rear of the police department to investigate and found a black truck parked in the grassy area behind the building, which is not open to the public. Police say the driver began flashing the truck’s bright lights toward officers and revving the engine, creating a dangerous situation and temporarily limiting officers’ visibility.

Officers positioned themselves strategically around the parking lot while issuing loud verbal commands to the driver. At one point, the suspect turned off the vehicle’s lights, allowing officers to see inside the truck. Authorities reported that the driver appeared to be the only occupant and was seen holding an object in his hand before ducking down toward the driver’s seat area.

Based on the suspect’s movements and behavior, officers reported that they feared for their safety while continuing to give commands and maintain their positions.

The situation was eventually brought under control and the suspect was taken into custody. Fire and EMS personnel responded to the police department to medically evaluate the individual following the arrest.

A search of the vehicle uncovered several items, including:

Investigators also determined that before arriving behind the police department, the driver had allegedly intentionally struck another vehicle on Murfreesboro Road and fled the scene.

Authorities said that no officers or community members were injured during the incident.

Police officials commended the officers involved for their response.

“The La Vergne Police Department commends all officers involved for their professionalism, restraint, and commitment to safely resolving a potentially dangerous situation,” the department stated.

The case remains under investigation.
