COFFEE COUNTY, Tenn. — Additional details have been released following a motorcycle crash that occurred Saturday afternoon on Interstate 24 near Exit 110, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at the interchange connecting I-24 to State Route 53, also known as Woodbury Highway and U.S. 41. Authorities reported that the incident occurred shortly after a group of riders crested a hill along the interstate.
A preliminary report from state troopers indicates that 39-year-old Christopher Scott Horsley of Alabama was operating a 2013 Harley-Davidson Street Glide when he attempted to slow down after reaching the top of the hill. Investigators say Horsley was unable to reduce speed in time and struck the rear of another motorcycle in his group.
The second rider, identified as 22-year-old Steven Dewayne Goff Jr., also of Alabama, was traveling on a 2021 Harley-Davidson Street Glide at the time of the crash. Following the initial impact, troopers reported that Horsley’s motorcycle then collided with a third motorcycle.
Authorities stated that the third rider left the scene following the crash. Troopers have not identified that individual, and no description of the motorcycle involved has been released.
Emergency calls reporting the crash were received at approximately 3:25 p.m. Saturday. The incident caused significant traffic delays, with both eastbound lanes of Interstate 24 blocked and the right shoulder closed for more than an hour as crews responded and cleared the scene.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Horsley was the only person injured in the crash. The extent of his injuries has not been disclosed.
At this time, officials say no charges have been filed, and none are currently pending as the investigation continues.
