MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) - Rutherford County’s Historic Downtown Square will come alive with color, creativity, and community spirit on Saturday, April 18, as the 2026 Earth Day Celebration returns from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s theme, “Go Green, Breathe Clean,” puts a spotlight on something we all depend on but often take for granted: the air we breathe. Organizers say the goal is simple—help residents understand how everyday choices can strengthen local air quality and create a healthier environment for everyone. Whether it’s reducing pollution, supporting sustainable practices, or just being more mindful about energy use, the message is that every person plays a role in keeping Rutherford County’s air clean.
Families will find plenty to enjoy on the Square, including a lively Kids Zone presented by Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation and the Smyrna Outdoor Adventure Center. The event is free, open to all ages, and designed to make environmental learning feel fun, hands‑on, and accessible.
Submit Poster Entry by April 13 - One of the most beloved traditions of Earth Day in Murfreesboro—the annual Earth Day Poster Contest—returns as well. Students in grades K–12 who live in Murfreesboro or Rutherford County are invited to design a poster inspired by this year’s theme. Entries must be submitted by Monday, April 13 at 4 p.m., and the winning artwork will be displayed during the celebration on April 18. Gift cards will be awarded in each grade category, and winners must be present at the event to receive their prizes.
Full contest rules, size requirements, and participation forms are available at cityschools.net/2026-earth-day, and entries may be submitted individually or as part of a group, class, or family project.
With education, creativity, and community at its heart, this year’s Earth Day Celebration invites everyone to take a breath, take part, and help keep Rutherford County’s future bright and clean.
