Previous News Story - MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS News) - A Rutherford County native is making waves on the national stage after advancing to the final three contestants on American Idol... That was Lynn Caldwell with the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department.

Murfreesboro native Jordan McCullough advanced toward the top position during Monday night’s broadcast of the hit show, securing his spot as a Top 3 finalist. Following his successful performance, American Idol will send McCullough back to his roots for an official hometown visit this Wednesday afternoon... 

The Parks and Rec. Department told WGNS News that the city has major plans surrounding the performer's visit... The homecoming will feature a parade and a large-scale free concert in downtown Murfreesboro... Again, the parade and free concert will be this Wednesday (May 6, 2026) afternoon. 

Officials with the parks department noted that the event serves as an opportunity to "show off" Murfreesboro, thrusting the community into the national spotlight... The homecoming parade is scheduled for this Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. in downtown Murfreesboro (Rain or Shine). Following the parade, a free live concert featuring Jordan and his band will begin at 6 p.m. at the Siegel Indoor Soccer Complex on Cherry Lane at Highway 231.

Bring Lawn Chairs: Residents and fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and prepare for a night of music and celebration. Free parking for the event will be available in both city and county parking garages, though officials remind the public that several streets will be closed to traffic to accommodate the crowds. Scroll down for MORE information...
