MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - A Rutherford County school leader is getting statewide recognition for her impact on local students. State education officials named Buchanan Elementary School Principal Ashley Witt a semifinalist for the Tennessee Principal of the Year program. The honor recognizes outstanding school administrators who show excellence in school culture and student achievement.
Witt started her role as principal at Buchanan Elementary in 2017. She says the honor reflects the collective hard work of her entire school community. Witt notes that her team works hard to focus on both academic success and emotional support for children.
Rutherford County Director of Schools Dr. Jimmy Sullivan praised Witt’s growth and dedication. Sullivan says Witt leads with heart, compassion, and purpose, creating a positive culture that impacts students and staff every day.
Witt is a longtime educator who spent her entire career in Rutherford County Schools. She says her ultimate goal is to ensure every child feels loved, seen, and supported. State officials will announce the final winner of the Tennessee Principal of the Year award later this year.
