MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - The Murfreesboro Planning Commission cleared the hurdle for the new Buc-ee's travel center to install its giant roadside signs featuring the famous buck-tooth beaver mascot. The decision came during a Wednesday night meeting where planners voted to override standard city size restrictions.

Drivers along Interstate 24 can already see major changes taking shape at the Joe B. Jackson Parkway exit as construction crews work daily on the site. The massive 74,000-square-foot travel center will feature 120 fueling stations alongside their signature massive convenience store.

City leaders say the travel center expects to see over five-million visitors a year spending, on average, about $100 per visit. That would equate to about three-and-a-half million dollars in sales tax revenue to the city of Murfreesboro and an additional three-and-a-half million dollars to the Rutherford County government budget.
