Rutherford County Schools is turning a new page in its athletics leadership. Director of Schools Dr. Jimmy Sullivan announced today that longtime coach and school‑level athletic director Greg Wyant will become the district’s next athletic director beginning July 1.

Wyant, a familiar face in local athletics, brings 34 years of experience to the role, including 16 years at Riverdale High School and the past 18 at Siegel High School, where he has served as athletic director since 2010. He also serves on the TSSAA Legislative Council and is president of the Tennessee Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

Joining him at the district level will be Jena Jones, formerly of The Webb School, who will step into the newly created position of athletic supervisor. Jones, who has lived in Rutherford County for 16 years, previously worked with MTSU athletics before transitioning to Webb in 2014. She has served as the school’s athletic director since 2023.

Leadership Transition Underway The announcement comes as current RCS athletic director Chris Harris prepares to retire June 30. Sullivan praised Harris for his steady leadership and dedication, noting he “will be missed.”

Sullivan said Wyant and Jones bring “a wealth of knowledge, experience, and perspectives” that will strengthen the district’s athletic offerings. Assistant athletics director Brad Rohling will continue overseeing the district’s athletic training staff.

A Vision for Growth and Visibility Wyant said he is honored to take on the districtwide role and wants athletics to remain aligned with academics and the arts. He hopes to increase publicity for middle and high school programs and reinforce the educational foundation of school‑based athletics.

“I still think high school athletics is probably the purest form of athletics there is,” Wyant said. “We want to make sure our coaches are driving home life lessons, not just skills and techniques.”

Jones said she looks forward to supporting schools as they navigate an increasingly complex landscape of rules and eligibility requirements, especially with recent changes to transfer regulations.

“This position is giving the school district the opportunity to enhance and become better,” Jones said. “It’s a second set of eyes.”

Both Wyant and Jones officially begin their new duties July 1.
