SMYRNA, Tenn. (WGNS) - Smyrna officials are gearing up for a massive crowd this Thursday, July 2nd, as the town hosts its annual Independence Day Celebration at Lee Victory Recreation Park. The free event runs from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and marks a major local milestone during America's 250th anniversary year.
This year's headliner is Rubik's Groove, a popular Nashville-based '80s dance party band. Families can also enjoy free inflatables, live music, and more than 50 local vendors. Visitors can bring their own picnics, lawn chairs, and blankets, but officials remind everyone that personal grills and fireworks are strictly banned.
Rutherford County drivers should prepare for major traffic changes later that evening. To comply with national safety codes, police will close Sam Ridley Parkway between Old Nashville Highway and Fitzhugh Drive from 8:30 p.m. until roughly 10:30 p.m. Officers will also shut down sections of Threet Industrial Road, Nolan Drive, and the walking trail in front of the park.
Free parking is available while spaces last at Lee Victory Recreation Park, the Smyrna Event Center, the Smyrna Outdoor Adventure Center, and the Smyrna Golf Course. Golf course parking requires walking through the pedestrian tunnel under Sam Ridley Parkway. Parking on road shoulders, bridges, or taped-off areas is illegal.
If you cannot make it out, Stewarts Creek High School’s Video Production Program is partnering with the town to stream the fireworks live on Smyrna’s official Facebook and YouTube pages. You can also text Smyrna2026 to 77295 to receive live traffic and event alerts on your phone. In case of bad weather, the town scheduled a rain date for Friday, July 3rd.
