License Plate Readers Lead Police to 20-Year-Old Stolen Car Suspect

MT. JULIET, TN (WGNS) - High technology is taking a big bite out of crime these days, and some offenders are learning that lesson the hard way. More than a few have described that eerie moment when they think they’ve slipped away clean—only to feel the long arm of the law tap them on the shoulder. That’s exactly what played out Friday afternoon in neighboring Mt. Juliet, a community that straddles both Wilson and Rutherford counties and has built a reputation for “zero tolerance” policing.

Friday afternoon (6/26/2026), Mt. Juliet officers were alerted by their license plate reader system to a tag displayed on a 2015 Toyota Camry reported stolen out of Nashville. The technology flagged the vehicle the moment it entered the city from I‑40 at Golden Bear Gateway, giving officers a real‑time location and a narrow window to intercept.

They didn’t waste a second.

The suspect—a 20‑year‑old Nashville man—had pulled into a gas station and was just about to start pumping fuel when officers moved in. The arrest was quick, safe, and by all accounts, a surprise to the young man who likely believed he was in the clear. A firearm was found on his person during the arrest.

The Camry itself had been stolen overnight from the driveway of a home on Doverside Drive in Nashville. Thanks to crime technology and the fast response from Mt. Juliet Police, the victim will now get their vehicle back, and one more alleged offender is off the roads.

WGNS NewsRadio reminds listeners that all persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. These reports come from area police files and reflect the results of ongoing investigations. As always, those arrested are considered suspects and are presumed innocent unless and until guilt is established.
