The 13th Annual Middle Half Marathon is set for 7:00 o'clock Saturday morning, October 12, 2019.
After 12 years, the Murfreesboro Half Marathon, or "The Middle Half" has changed its route. On October 12, two thousand runners will start near Central Magnet School on Main Street and finish the 13.1 mile race near the Square.
Registration opened June 1st with a registration limit of 2000 runners, and within the first two weeks of registration opening it was already almost half filled. Now, their first registration price increase is coming August 1st. So, if you want to save some money and run in the Middle Half, you should register before August 1, 2019.
"Runners are excited about the new course," said Melissa Miller, race director. "We've eliminated the portions that people complained about and added more of MTSU's beautiful campus. It is such a flat course that many runners from around the country use the race to train for full marathons or to set a PR (person record)."
The course includes the Rutherford County Courthouse on the Square, scenic tree-lined Main Street and Maney Avenue, Oaklands Mansion and the newer portions of MTSU's campus.
Sponsors include The City of Murfreesboro, Murfreesboro Parks & Recreation Department, Fleet Feet Sports, Lee Company, and Publix. Sponsorships are available at various levels; email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Participants may register online by credit or debit card at www.themiddlehalf.com.
Did you know that MTSU Alums Melinda and Miles Tate ('84) along with daughter Natalie ('05) started this race? Did you know that proceeds from this race fund two scholarships here at MTSU? Five MTSU students have received the Murfreesboro Half Marathon Scholarship and Melinda and Miles Tate Scholarship so far.
Students benefiting from these two scholarships must be at least Juniors. Scholarship funding for Junior and Senior level students is critical as fewer funds are available for these students.
The Tate Family, along with the Murfreesboro Half Marathon Board, wanted to make an impact on MTSU students in "The Middle Half" of their academic career as much as MTSU has made an impact on them.
MTSU has been a partner with The Middle Half since its inception, hosting the start and finish of many races, student groups and departmental office participate as cheer squads along the race course, and many students, alumni, faculty and staff have participated in this race since the beginning. This is a great community event!
