A second catalytic converter has been stolen in Murfreesboro in the past 3 months. A catalytic converter is part of a vehicles exhaust that contains a catalyst for converting pollutant gases into less harmful ones.

This time, the victim parked his car at Chelsa Place Apartments and when he went to start it the following morning, he quickly heard that it sounded a bit off. When he looked under the car he saw that someone had cut off the catalytic converter.

The converters contain precious metals such as platinum and palladium that can be resold for about $75 to $150 each.

A previous theft took place in March near River Rock Boulevard.
