We continue to follow the 1982 murder of Lynn Orrand who was shot and killed while hunting in the area of Halls Hill Pike. You may recall, the murder was solved by the Cold Case Detectives with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office several years ago and Candace Carol Bush and her husband Gary Wayne Bush were convicted of the murder. Evidently, Candace was married to Orrand when the murder unfolded, but after his death married the man who shot him.

Since the crime hit the courts and convictions were handed down, the Bush's fought the courts filing appeals time and time again.

The most recent development filed by the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals in June (2015) denied the appeal filed by Gary Wayne Bush. The denial by the courts means the court battle has officially ended.

Past appeals filed by Candace and Gary Bush suggested they received ineffective assistance of counsel based upon the trial counsel's advice that they should not testify at trial.

Candace and Gary Bush remain in prison and will be eligible for parole in year 2044. When they are eligible for parole Gary will be 99-years of age and Candace will be 91-years of age.

Looking Back: In 1982, the victim was shot in the back while hunting in Rutherford County and Gary Bush maintained it was an accident. After Orrand's death Candace married Gary Bush, the man accused of shooting Orrand. In 2007 Orrand's body was exhumed and the cold case was re-opened.

Gary Wayne Bush and Candace Bush were later convicted for the murder of Lynn Orrand.
