More signs of heroin in our community... A recent arrest was made during the morning hours at a fast food eatery. Evidently, police went to McDonalds on South East Broad Street in Murfreesboro in search of a man known to frequent the establishment in the mornings. 40-year old Sol Vecchio had a warrant for his arrest.

When police arrived, they met with Mr. Vecchio and advised him of his outstanding warrant. They also noticed the needle marks on his arm. When questioned, they asked if he had anything illegal on his person. According to the report, "Sol said yes and produced a needle he said he used for Heroin."

A news story filed by the Associate Press this past April highlighted the rise of heroin in Tennessee suggesting it was easier to come by than prescription pain killers. A story in a July edition of The Tennessean further showed that teens in Tennessee were experimenting with Heroin at a rate that rang in at twice the national average.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention released a study in recent years that shows Heroin caused deaths in America is increasing among those who are aged 18 to 44. The increase is felt especially hard in the category of those who are white, non-Hispanic males and females.
