Every second Wednesday, Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland is on the WGNS' Action Line (8:10-9:00AM). It's an opportunity for local residents to talk one-on-one with the mayor about issues that concern them. As always, questions are so broad and sometimes complex that Mayor McFarland needs to check with department heads for accurate responses.
Here are the questions from the October 10, 2018 broadcast that he wanted to check with other sources before giving an answer.
1) Unsightly low voltage wiring hanging (west main and broad street). The listener indicated that there are low hanging wires all around the city.
From Philip Lim: I stopped by to check out the inquiry from the caller to the Mayor on the WGNS call - "low voltage wiring hanging (west main and broad street)." The coiled up low voltage cables are old telephone (twisted pair) cables. The pole in question is in front of the Broadway Loans store (501 Broad at the corner of W. Main). There are probably plenty of these examples throughout the older part of town. There is no quick solution to clean them unless the City has an enforcement program.
2). Resident requested a traffic light Dejarnette and Alexander Blvd.
From Jim Kerr: The transportation department is schedule to collect traffic counts at this intersection before the end of the year, once counts are recorded and reviewed for accuracy, a signal warrant analysis will be performed to see if the volumes warrant a signal based on the Manual of Uniformed Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Should this location meet signal warrants, we will initiate the design internally and implement the construction. Best case scenario is implementation late summer. We have reviewed this location in the past (March 2017) and the location did not meet signal warrants at that time. Let me know if you need further information.
3). Tedder and Haynes house drive house with trash. This report of boats, cars, boxes has come-up in previous months.
From Joey Smith: I checked out the problem at Tedder Blvd, and Haynes Drive. It is tall grass and vines growing up the guide wire and telephone pole. I have given the address to Raymond and he is sending someone out to look at it. If you need any additional information just ask.
From Robert Holtz: We cited the property owner this month for open storage. They have cleaned it up some; but not enough. We will inspect for weeds and grass
