STATEWIDE Shortage on School Counselors and the Focus of MTSU

Jun 21, 2019 at 09:45 am by Bryan Barrett

Mental health awareness continues to grow across the United States. The same can be said in Rutherford County and within local schools.

The TN Department of Education released a report on mental health within the schools and noted, "Mental and emotional health are critical for student success. Unfortunately, mental health disorders are the most common diseases of childhood."

A program at MTSU helps to train those going into mental health counseling within the school systems.

That was Dr. Robin Lee, Director of the MTSU Center for Counseling and Psychological Services. The training clinic is part of an MTSU Master's program under Education. The clinic helps to line Master's students up with counseling children within local K through 12th grade schools. They also offer adult mental health counseling.
