Below is the original story from Sunday morning
(COFFEE COUNTY) One person is dead and two are injured after a carjacking and shooting around 9:30AM Sunday morning on I-24 near the Rutherford County line (traveling toward Nashville).
News partners at WMSR in Manchester report that four black males traveling in a black Dodge Charger evidently got into an argument and one of them pulled a gun and allegedly shot another person inside the vehicle. That person was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Coffee County Sheriff Billy Butler said from the appearance inside the vehicle, it appears that more than one weapon was used, and two others were shot,. One was rushed by ambulance to a nearby hospital and another transported by LifeFlight helicopter.
Reports indicate that while the altercation was in progress, the Dodge Charger sideswiped another vehicle driven by a Manchester resident with his family, and both vehicles ran off the road.
The fourth person in the Charger escaped without injury and ran across the interstate where he reportedly carjacked a black Toyota Camry. During that incident an elderly woman was shot in the hand, and a passing truck driver who stopped to help--was shot in the neck. Both are being treated at the hospital.
The black Toyota Camry driven by the shooting suspect is thought to have left the interstate at exit 97 (Beechgrove, TN).
