The way the line looked at 2:00PM Thursday (10/15/2020)

(MURFREESBORO) Early voting has already broken records across the Volunteer State, and Rutherford County Election Administrator Alan Farley said we're experiencing the same thing here at home . . .

Farley said that before 7:00 o'clock on the first day of early voting, there were 300 persons lined-up on the sidewalk in front of the Election Commission office on the square.

The First 2 Days

In the first two days of early voting, approximately 23-thousand Rutherford Countians made their decision.  A little over 9,000 votes were cast each day and approximagely 5,000 absentee ballots were received.

Farley was very appreciative of each person who cast their ballot . . .

Farley Prognostication

Each year the election administrator uses the trends to predict the total turnout for Rutherford County. For 2020, Rutherford County Election Administrator Farley went out on a limb . . .

You heard correctly, 65 per cent turn-out predicted, which represents 126,000 voters.

WGNS will compare the actual numbers during the election returns on the night of November 3, 2020.

Statewide Picture

The story was the same across Tennessee. Secretary of State Tre Hargett reported a record-breaking 273,325 people cast their ballot by voting early or absentee by-mail as of Wednesday (10/14/2020). This is a 91 per cent increase from the first day of early voting in 2016 and a 120 per cent increase over 2012.

More Hours and Locations Locally

Election Administrator Farley said they have extended the hours and added two additional vote centers to this election. The newly added locations are Smyrna First Free Mthodist Church at 1004 Hazelwood Drive in Smyrna, along with Leadership Park at World Outreach Church on the corner of Highway 99 and Barfield Road.

More Time + 2 More Vote Centers

The extra hours include opening an hour earlier Monday through Fridays at the regular vote centers---now open weekday 9AM until 6PM.  Saturday hours at all locations have also been extended--they're from 8:00 in the mornings until 2:00 on Saturday afternoons.

And if you need to start earlier, the Election Commission Office on the southside of Murfreesboro's public square is open weekdays from 7AM to 7PM, plus the 8AM-2PM hours on Saturday. Early voting continues now through October 29th.

Election day is Tuesday, November 3, and all locations are open that day from 7:00AM to 7:00PM.

When the last person votes, WGNS will be "live" at the election commission to give the Rutherford County vote--just like we've been for the past 73 years. Tune to AM 1450, FM 100.5, FM 101.9 and on-line at www.WGNSradio.com
