(NASHVILLE)  The Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) is the leading government agency to partner in a new nationwide support system for others who are facing adversity. The National Overcomers Network will acknowledge individuals who prevailed over their personal vulnerabilities in-spite-of the existing public support system and connect them with adults who are now facing similar challenges.

The Department’s partnership will include other sectors normally excluded from the public support system. These include private businesses, faith-based organizations, non-profits, and community-based service groups.

By collectively working together, the network can more effectively serve Americans with economic, social, and developmental vulnerabilities in ways that help them overcome their current challenges, not merely manage them.

The Department is uniquely suited for its role in the National Overcomers Network through its current and future partnerships with organizations and agencies that provide a variety of support that help vulnerable adults overcome the challenges that prevent them from being self-sufficient.

“As we launch this initiative, it is my hope for the human services system to become a trusted partner,” said TDHS Commissioner Clarence H. Carter. “It is only by combining a shared vision with intentional design, appropriate support, and the indomitable spirit of those served that we will be able to create an America where overcoming is the rule not the exception.”

The National Overcomer’s Network will showcase victors from the Inaugural Class of Overcomers at today’s event in California. TDHS Commissioner Clarence H. Carter will join overcomers Archie Williams from America’s Got Talent, Ginny Burton and innovative leaders from across the nation, including Chris Megison, CEO and Co-Founder of Solutions for Change.

The launch event will demonstrate how current circumstances do not have to define one’s future success. It can be viewed live from 3 P.M to 5 P.M. (CST) online.
