WARREN COUNTY, Tenn. – A Smyrna, Tennessee man has been arrested in a major drug bust that unfolded in nearby Warren County.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office, working in cooperation with the McMinnville Police Department and the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, announced the arrest of Robert “Bobby” Alexander Russell, 38, of Smyrna. Russell, a convicted felon with a prior drug conviction out of Cannon County, is believed to be one of the largest methamphetamine suppliers in Warren County and surrounding areas.

He was taken into custody in the early morning hours of September 6, 2025, and charged with:

  • Felony Possession of Methamphetamine (453 grams) with Intent to Deliver

  • Driving While in Possession of Methamphetamine

According to narcotics investigators, an extensive investigation into Russell began approximately two months ago after authorities learned he had been transporting large amounts of methamphetamine—estimated at two to three pounds per trip, multiple times per week—from Smyrna into Warren and surrounding counties for more than a year.

Sheriff Jackie D. Matheny, Jr. praised the joint effort of law enforcement agencies, stating:

The arrest of Mr. Russell represents a major victory in our fight against illegal drugs. He was a key supplier of methamphetamine in our community, flooding Warren County with dangerous, life-destroying narcotics. Removing him from our streets is a critical step in protecting our citizens and sending a clear message to other drug traffickers that they will not be allowed to operate here. This arrest adds to the growing list of drug dealers who have been taken off our streets in recent months. Chief Mosely and I are proud to support our officers and their relentless efforts, and we continue to encourage anyone with information about illegal drug activity to contact our office. Together, we can and will make Warren County a safer place to live.

Russell is currently being held at the Warren County Jail on a $150,000 bond. The investigation remains ongoing.
