Local non-profit Barnabas Vision honored Cliff and Jane Sharp, along with Scott Walker with the organization's 2017 Community Service Award at Tuesday (5/2/2017) evening's gathering.

The Sharp's founded Greenhouse Ministries and the slogan "Planting Hope in the 'Boro" clearly describes their mission.

Greenhouse' website gives a clearer statement: Greenhouse Ministries goal is to provide a place to help, educate and connect everyone who walks through the door. Greenhouse offers services for basic human needs. These include providing help from our food bank, clothing, toiletries, household items, prayer, assistance obtaining an ID/birth certificate, etc.

Greenhouse Ministries is located at 309 South Spring Street where they operate a thrift store that sells donated merchandise to the community and raises funds to support its work. Scott Walker

Walker combines the benefits of media to increase community awareness to the needs of others. Prior to the award being presented, Walker shared how Barnabas Vision had helped an addicted woman who was once homeless to get a job and move into a home. Walker's work with homeless, and especially veterans, has changed lives for this segment of the area's population.

He uses a mix of social media and mass media to share audio and visual images of local needs. Everything from emotional videos of a homeless man that Walker helped to secure his birth certificate which opened the door to job opportunities, to an in-depth look at forgotten residents whose lives sometimes end tragically and alone. Barnabas Vision

Barnabas Vision is a local non-profit that works through caring, encouraging and helping.

The organization's website describes it mission as: "Offering service opportunities utilizing various talents from our community. While still in its infant stages, we're collecting volunteer information for future community projects and outreach efforts."

Barnabas Vision's officers include Executive Director David Coggin, Secretary Robert Coggin, and Treasurer Wade Parmer; board members are Teb Batey, David Coggin, Jo Anne Coggin, Staci McCreary, Cliff Sharp, Shane Reeves, and David Young.
