Several Murfreesboro residents and businesses have filed police reports recently, reporting calls from someone telling them their electric bill was overdue. They follow that with a warning that their electricity will be cut off in just if they don't pay immediately by sending a Money Pak card. Terrie Page with the Better Business Bureau says THIS IS A SCAM...

In one incident, a business owner was actually scammed out of $1,450. The victim told authorities he received a call stating that his auto-draft payment to Murfreesboro Electric had been interrupted and that he now owed the money. The threat was made that if the bill was not paid, his lights would be shut off. Now, this Northfield Boulevard business owner is out the cash. The case was documented by police and labeled as fraud. No arrests have been made.
