BEWARE: Lawn Mowers on Rural Roads

Tis the season of grass and weeds--plus, with yards growing to road's edge, lawn mowers often get into the roadway. MOTORISTS beware of lawn mowers, and residents--WATCH OUT FOR VEHICLES!

Life is delicate and can change in a fraction of a second. The mowing scenerio came to life for a Rutherford County resident who was mowing his large lot in rural Rutherford County. It was about dusk, and fortunately his unit was larger than a garden tractor and had a roll bar. The home-owner suffered a broken shoulder blade, but damage to the SUV that hit the medium size lawn tractor was more than moderate.

It's going to be a painful recovery home-owner, but that is better than what could have happened if he had been using a push mower or garden tractor.

While mowing lawns that are flush to the roadway, make certain you are wearing a bright orange safety vest, having flashing lights on the mowing unit and put cones along the roadway.

Oh, and try not to mow along the roadways at dusk or at night.
