Blackman Girls Hold Off Oakland for First Region Championship

The Oakland girls slowed the pace of the game and got to the fourth quarter only down one. But the Lady Blaze got timely shots and Oakland missed six free throws down the stretch. Blackman wins their first region championship by a final of 41-33. Blackman won the final quarter 11-to-4 as the Lady Pats only had two fourth quarter field goals. Alex Johnson paced Blackman with nine points, Crystal Dangerfield had eight. Oakland was led in scoring by Shelby Gibson's 10. Emily Eubank followed with nine.

With the win, Blackman will host Cumberland County, which lost the 3AAA championship to Bradley Central 76-72 in overtime in sectional play Saturday at 7pm. Oakland will travel to Bradley Central. Gametime will be 7pm local time, 6pm Murfreesboro time. Winners Saturday will play at the Murphy Center in the Blue Cross Basketball Championships next week.
