Blackman & Siegel Boys in State Tournament

Rutherford County will be well represented in the boys Blue Cross Basketball Championships next week. WGNS' Bryan Barrett has more...

Blackman and Siegel both win their sectional games to punch their tickets to the state tournament. Blackman defeated Ooltewah 84-58 to return for the second year in a row. Mr. Basketball finalist Darius Thompson led Blackman with 24 points, 16 of those in the second half. Jauan Jennings added 18 points off the bench. After trailing 11-to-4 early, the Blaze roared back to grab an 18-16 lead after one quarter. They never looked back.

The Siegel Stars used an 11-to-nothing run to start the second half enroute to a 59-38 win at Bradley Central. The Bears didn't shoot the ball well, but had enough threes fall in the first half to stay close. The Stars defense forced them outside most of the night and dominated the boards both on offense and defense. Dominique Gooch had 17 in the win, eight of those in the first quarter. Ryan Jones added 15 for the Stars.

The state tournament seeding draw is next Saturday morning at 10. Play will begin next Wednesday. For WGNS Sports, I'm Bryan Barrett.
