For the second time in three years, Rutherford County is the home of the Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year in girls basketball. Blackman sophomore point guard Crystal Dangerfield was selected among the state's best players. The Miss Basketball finalist, all state tournament selection and tournament MVP averaged 14-and-a-half points, over three assists and nearly three steals per game.

Dangerfield is a member of Blackman's DECA chapter and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She has volunteered on behalf of her church, as part of a literacy outreach program and as a youth basketball instructor. She's also raised funds to benefit Alzheimer's research and promoted healthy living at nearby elementary schools. In addition, Dangerfield has maintained a three-point-seven-five G-P-A in the classroom.

She helped lead the Blackman Lady Blaze to a 34-and-1 record, a state and national championship, the first team title in the school's history. Former Riverdale player Shacobia Barbee, currently playing for Georgia, was player of the year two-years ago.
