Blue Angel Jet Featured In Capt. Jeff Kuss USMC Memorial Arrives In Smyrna Thursday

A Blue Angel F/A-18C Hornet similar to the jet flown by United States Marine Corps Captain Jeff Kuss and on loan from the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida will be shipped by flatbed truck and arrive Thursday afternoon at Smyrna Airport Terminal and Business Center, 278 Doug Warpoole Road. The jet will remain in an airport hangar until the memorial construction begins when it will be placed on permanent display.

Once in Tennessee, the jet will travel on I-65 North to I-840 East. It will continue on I-840 E and take Exit 55 onto US-41 N/US-70S W. Local law enforcement and first responders will rendezvous with the jet transport at the Rutherford County line on 840 and escort the blue angel jet into Smyrna down Lowry Street. The public is welcome to view the escort and jet anywhere along Lowry Street.

The window for the arrival is around noon. The most up-to-date information on the arrival time can be found on the Town of Smyrna's Facebook page, www.facebook.com/townofsmyrnatn.

Media will be allowed in the hangar for the arrival of the aircraft. Members of the press may park at the terminal and enter the terminal through the front door to the covered patio area. Mayor Mary Esther Reed will be available for comments and questions during this time. Following press interviews, the aircraft will be moved to another hangar location at the airport for unloading, reassembly, and storage until the construction of the memorial.

The Capt. Jeff Kuss USMC Memorial will be located on Sam Ridley Parkway East along the greenway in Lee Victory Recreation Park.
