About nine years ago today, 7-year old James Lee Harper III was killed by his mother Rachel Cline Summers in Christiana, Tennessee. Rachel is behind bars in Nashville where she will remain for the rest of her life. The courts found that Rachel’s’ husband Edward Summers also played a role in the murder of James.
About six years ago Edward Summers entered a “best interest plea to facilitation of murder” and will go before a parole board on Tuesday (September 24, 2013). If his parole is approved, he will be released from prison in October of this year.
We talked to the uncle of James Lee Harper who told us that Summers should not be released from prison. He suggested the conviction of murder or facilitation of murder should keep someone behind bars their entire sentence. Jason Cline who is the younger brother of Rachel Cline Summers, told us that James Lee Harper is still missed greatly today…
The complete sentence for Edward Summers officially ends in 2024. The parole hearing will be September 24, 2013. If you want to voice your opinion to the parole board about Summers you can send an email to the board at firstname.lastname@example.org . Cline told us the board does read every email sent to them about persons who are eligible for parole. In the subject line you will need to type, “Offender, Edward Summers.”
Rachel Summers was sentenced to life in prison after being charged with the murder of her son. Summers allegedly poisoned her son with poison she had purchased at the Kroger Store in the Barfield Community. Jason Cline told WGNS that he has forgiven his sister for her actions, however he has not spoken to her since the murder.
