January saw record setting cold. In fact, the National Weather Service reports January 2014 was the coldest since 1985 and the 15th coldest on record. Temperatures for the month averaged near the freezing mark, 32-point-four degrees. That's almost five-and-ah-half degrees below normal. By the way, 1977 was the coldest January on record, with an average temperature of 24-point-five degrees. While temperatures were below normal, there were no records set and only four-tenths of an inch of snow fell. January was just over an inch below normal in rainfall.
