District 7, Engine 4, Ladder 6, and Rescue 8 responded to a house fire located at 1715 Oxford Drive around 7:30 pm.

Crews arrived on scene to discover heavy black smoke showing outside of the one story home. District 7's units located the fire in the attic and quickly extinguished the flames according to Acting Battalion Chief Terry Smith. "The fire was knocked down quickly, and personnel did a great job" Smith said.

The attic and ceiling received extensive damage. The house also suffered water damage throughout.

No one was injured and the displaced residents did not require assistance from the Red Cross.

According to Assistant Fire Marshal Michael Bartlett, upon initial investigation, the fire appears to have started in the attic and was accidental.

SHED FIRES

Shortly before 8:00 pm, MFRD's District 1 and Rescue 2 responded to a 20x25 shed on fire at 835 North Spring Street. "No other structures were damaged," said Fire Marshal Carl Peas, "and the fire does not appear to be suspicious."

Less than an hour later, Engines 1 and 4 and Rescue 8 responded to another shed fire on Poplar Avenue. "The shed is approximately a 12x14, portable-type shed," said Peas. "It sits behind Murfreesboro Vacuum and Sewing which is located at 1013 Memorial Boulevard."

"At this time it is unclear if the two shed fires are connected," Peas said. "We will be conducting a routine investigation at both locations."

No injures were associated with either incident. More information will be released as it becomes available.
