United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties is partnering with Murfreesboro City Schools and Rutherford County Schools to refurbish playgrounds on September 26, 2014. Companies and organizations are asked to adopt a playground by sponsoring materials and providing volunteers for the project.

This second annual event is aimed at encouraging healthy lifestyles as part of United Way's impact area of health. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, regular physical activity in childhood and adolescence improves strength and endurance, helps build healthy bones and muscles, helps control weight, reduces anxiety and stress, increases self-esteem, and may improve blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
