(Murfreesboro) The Murfreesboro Composite Squadron, the local unit of Civil Air Patrol, is hosting an open house from 10:00 o'clock Saturday morning until noon at the Jean Jack Education Building near the Murfreesboro Airport.
According to Capt Debbie Torp-Pedersen, squadron commander, the entire community is welcome to attend and learn more about CAP.
Members of the squadron will be present to greet visitors, and give members a tour of a Civil Air Patrol Cessna and explain CAP's missions for America. During the open house, members will be flying in a Civil Air Patrol owned Cessna 182 to show what Civil Air Patrol is doing with the pilot shortage.
The open house is part of the 77th-anniversary observance designed to create a greater awareness of CAP's presence and contribution in the community.
The cadet program teaches youth ages 12-21 about leadership, exploring aerospace, aviation careers, emergency services, physical fitness, character development and much more. The Squadron also hosts numerous activities throughout the year and has opportunities to attend other Civil Air Patrol events across the state and in different parts of the country.
