At approximately 11:26 Monday (2/25/2019) morning, Murfreesboro police received a call about an unidentified male attempting to break into vehicles at a business on Medical Center Parkway.

Officers arrived and confronted the male, who took off running toward nearby railroad tracks.

The subject managed to elude officers on foot, running towards the city's Greenway and eventually jumped into the Stones River where he became stranded.

Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue spokesperson Ashley McDonald told WGNS, "MFRD was called to perform a swift water rescue around 12:30 pm in the area of 1545 NW Broad Street. The department deployed the boat at the Manson Pike Trailhead and successfully rescued one male victim who had entered the water on foot and was hanging on to a tree.

The man refused to give police his correct name. Charges will be pending until he is positively identified. NewsRadio WGNS will keep you informed.
