VERBATIM:

The contract is with Sensys, a private company out of Florida and replaces the deal with American Traffic Solutions or ATS. This despite the fact representatives from the company were at the meeting and asked the council to reconsider their bid.

Murfreesboro Police Deputy Chief Michael Bowen, who made the recommendation to approve the new contract, says it will generate an estimated 378-thousand dollars for the city, plus any late fees and additional charges, which could be upwards of 100-thousand extra dollars...

Sensys will keep over 520-thousand dollars annually, based on the average number of traffic citations issued. As for what the city will do with the extra revenue, Councilman Bill Shacklett amended the original proposal to earmark the funds for traffic safety. Again - it passed the council unanimously. The City of Murfreesboro first began utilizing red light cameras at intersections in 2008.
