The Murfreesboro City Council will consider giving 10 acres of city-owned property to a secret company to build a North American corporate headquarters in the Gateway area and bring 250 jobs here, according to Chamber of Commerce and city officials.

Murfreesboro Post contributor Sam Stockard reports the proposal, which is dubbed Project Lynch and targeted for land on Garrison Drive across from Murfreesboro Medical Clinic, received unanimous approval Monday from the city's five-member Gateway Commission. Work would start on a 164,000-square-foot building in summer 2015 and be completed in fall 2016.

Mayor Shane McFarland estimated the land's value at $4 million based on average values at $5 to $15 per square foot in the Gateway area along Medical Center Parkway. McFarland said he could not give specifics about the company because existing employees are involved.

The city's only inducement is the land donation, according to McFarland, who said he is comfortable with the proposal because it will benefit the company and Rutherford County through job creation.
