Commissioner Steve Ervin Passes Away

Rutherford County is mourning the passing of County Commissioner Steve Ervin. He passed away Thursday (April 9) at his home of a heart attack at age 66.

He served district 19 since 2018 and was director of Rutherford County's Recovery Courts and Probation Services. Ervin also served as chaplain for the Rutherford County Commission.

Fellow Commissioner Pettus Read served with him on the Steering, Legislative and Governmental Committee:



Read, who chairs the Public Safety Committee was very complimentary of Ervin's work with the county's recovery courts and probation services:

Mayor Bill Ketron, on Facebook, said "My deepest sympathy goes out to Debbie and the Ervin family. He was a great husband, father, educator, commissioner, and most importantly a man of deep Faith! He will be missed by all!"Ervin leaves behind his wife Debbie and six children. He was a 27-year veteran educator and also served as a police officer.
