Congrats To Local 5th Grade Amazing Shake Winners!

Remember your parents telling you to "look'em straight in the eye, have a good hand shake, and speak clearly"? That's what the "AMAZING SHAKE" is all about. Twenty-one fifth grade students from seven Rutherford County elementary schools concluded two days of competition on Thursday night with Veronica Babbitt, a Kittrell Elementary student, and Madeline Heaton, student at Walter Hill Elementary, are the Rutherford County Schools winners! They now head to the national competition at the Ron Clark Academy National Amazing Shake Competition in Atlanta, February 22-24, 2019.

Participating Rutherford County schools this year included: Brown's Chapel, David Youree, John Colemon, Kittrell, Roy Waldron, Smyrna Primary, and Walter Hill Elementary.

A special thank you to the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce for organizing this soft skills competition through its Workforce Development program. , Rutherford Works, which partners closely with employers across the county to help find workforce solutions. Local corporate partners Nissan North America, Schwan Cosmetics USA, and Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation served as competition locations and provided judges for the events.

Chamber of Commerce Stephanie Brackman noted, "These kids competed in various tasks that demonstrate their ability to succeed in business development and entrepreneurship. I am proud of Rutherford County Schools for seeing the need in investing in our children and their future in our community."

Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation's Malissa Mayfield commented, "The poise and confidence displayed by these students is not only a testament to the effectiveness of the program, but also to the teachers who are working with them to develop and hone these skills."

Once again, Veronica Babbitt, a Kittrell Elementary student, and Madeline Heaton, student at Walter Hill Elementary, are the Rutherford County Schools winners!
