Nick Beres with News Channel 5 reported that Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold is now the focus of a criminal investigation. WGNS also confirmed that the Comptrollers Office along with the TBI paid a special visit to Rutherford County on Wednesday to look into allegations against the Sheriff.

Sheriff Arnold, who is under investigation by state auditors, may have committed a crime.
"If we don't have the trust of the public then we can't do our job. Law enforcement has to be above reproach," said District Attorney Jennings Jones. "We've been made aware of concerns over financial activity at the sheriff's department," said Jones. It stems in part from Arnold's involvement with JailCigs -- a company co-owned by the sheriff's uncle, which sells e-cigarettes to inmates at the jail.
With potentially tens of thousands of dollars in revenue -- auditors want to know where all the money goes.
Others questions to be answered:
  • Possible profiteering from a public office
  • Sources said he's been slow to cooperate with state auditors
  • Some are even questioning uniform spending and tazers
